Irish Cavalier Rescue is a small rescue dedicated to helping Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in Ireland. I will advise or help anyone needing to rehome a cavalier, and rehome or help on average, around 50 cavaliers annually (and the occasional cavalier mix). I will do my best to help any cavalier in an urgent situation and can help breeders rehome ex-breeding dogs, whether they have been kennel or indoor dogs.
ICR is, however, a one-person part-time rescue helped by volunteers. Please be considerate and understanding, and take the effort to read through the site. It will help answer all your questions if you are seriously thinking about a rescue cavalier.
FIRST: Is this really the right breed for you? Read more about cavaliers HERE.
These are the key points you need to know about the application process:
Applications are ONLY accepted for a SPECIFIC DOG currently listed as available in the Homes Needed section. We do not always have dogs. When we have available cavaliers, most are aged 3 and up.
We do list all available dogs here. We cannot take general applications for future dogs or notify you when a dog comes in
WE NEVER HAVE PUPPIES. If you are interested in puppies, you can read important advice on finding a healthy CKCS pup here.
All dogs are neutered, chipped and vet-checked before homing and a homecheck is done on the applicant. There is a homing donation of approximately €150-250 per dog, to cover costs towards neuter, chip, vax, worming, and vet-check. These are out of pocket costs to Irish Cavalier Rescue -- we do not receive grants. We operate by covering vet, boarding and transport costs, via donations. We do not require new owners to cover the full amount that we need to put into many of our dogs and a standard donation enables us to help all dogs
Please be sure to read each dog’s profile carefully to make sure that particular cavalier is the right dog for your home (many dogs are not suitable for children!). Due to minimal resources we may not be able to place dogs in some parts of the country, but we try our best. Generally we will not place dogs to homes with children under 7, but there are always exceptions for the right family and right dog.
You can see available dogs, and send in an application for one you are interested in, HERE. If you have a dog that you need to rehome, you can email me with details and I will get back to you. There is no charge for help in rehoming a dog, but I do greatly appreciate it if you spay or neuter your dog first, or donate towards my costs to do so. I cannot pay you for your dog.
Please do browse the website, where you’ll find information and links on the rescue, getting a puppy, fostering, health issues to watch for, and more. If you wish to get involved, I also always welcome foster homes and help with transporting cavaliers.

Other rescues to try
If we don’t have the right dog for you, I recommend visiting Dogs Trust in Dublin as they occasionally have cavaliers and always have many types of wonderful dogs, small to large, needing a new home. Also, for those not necessarily wanting a cavalier only, be sure to check out A Dog’s Life rescue in Dublin, ASH Animal Rescue in Co Wicklow (and visit their pet foxes!), Dundalk Dog Rescue in Dundalk, Inistioge Puppy Rescue in Co Kilkenny, PAWS or Cottage Rescue in Co Tipperary, or LAW in Limerick as all regularly have a wide range of wonderful rescue dogs of all ages, including many adorable smallies. Dogs (and cats!) all across Ireland, from many rescues, are on the Irish Animals website.
