Irish Cavalier Rescue is a small rescue dedicated to helping Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in Ireland. I will advise or help anyone needing to rehome a cavalier, and rehome or help on average, around 50 cavaliers annually (and the occasional cavalier mix). I will do my best to help any cavalier in an urgent situation (such as pound dogs, strays or cruelty cases). I can help breeders rehome ex-breeding dogs, regardless of whether they have been kennel dogs or indoor dogs.

ICR is, however, a one-person rescue with rescue work done in addition to a full time job. Please be considerate and take the effort to read through the site, as it almost certainly will have answers to all your questions if you are seriously thinking about a rescue cavalier. These are the key points you need to know about the application process and ICR dogs:

  1. BulletApplications are ONLY accepted for a SPECIFIC DOG currently listed as available in the Homes Needed section

  1. Bullet Please don’t send in a general application for any dog, or for future dogs. Please don’t email and ask if there are any dogs available  or if there are other dogs that are not on the site yet (available dogs are all listed here), or if I can contact you when one comes in (due to the volume of enquiries, this simply isn’t possible)

  1. BulletWE NEVER HAVE PUPPIES. If you are interested in puppies, you can read important advice on finding a healthy CKCS pup here

  1. BulletDon’t forget to indicate which dog you are applying for on your application! If you send in an unsuccessful application and wish to be considered for a different dog, just send an email to us, indicate the dog’s name,  and let us know you have already sent an application for a dog in the past

  1. Bullet All dogs are neutered and vet-checked before homing

  1. Bullet There is a homing donation of approximately €150-250 per dog, to cover costs towards neuter, chip, vax, worming, and vet-check. We do not receive government grants. We operate by covering vet, boarding and transport costs as best we can, via donations. We do not require new owners to cover the full amount that we need to put into many of our dogs, however. We always operate at a loss and file annual rescue accounts, produced by Farrell Grant Sparks.**

We do regularly have adults available, most aged three and up. Sometimes we have several at once, and sometimes there can be weeks or months where we have no dogs at all. Please be sure to read each dog’s profile carefully to make sure that cavalier is the right dog for your home (including whether the dog will fit with any children!). All prospective homes are homechecked. Due to minimal resources we may not be able to place dogs in some parts of the country, but we try our best. Generally we will not home dogs to homes with children under 5, but there are exceptions for the right family and right dog.

You can see any available dogs, and send in an application for one you are interested in, HERE. If you have a dog that you need to rehome, you can email me with details and I will get back to you. There is no charge for help in rehoming a dog, but I do greatly appreciate it if you spay or neuter your dog first, or donate towards my costs to do so.

I also recommend visiting Dogs Trust in Dublin as they occasionally have cavaliers and always have many types of dogs needing a new home.

Please do browse the website, where you’ll find information and links on the rescue, getting a puppy, fostering, health issues to watch for, and more. If you wish to get involved, I also always welcome foster homes and help with transporting cavaliers.
